3 Introduction to Computer Networks

    3.1 Computer Networks Definition

Computer networks involve connecting two or more devices to exchange information
and share their hardware and software resources. To achieve this, there are hardware
and software requirements, as well as network resource configurations. A network
can be simple, connecting only two computers using a single cable, or it can be highly
complex, linking hundreds of devices controlled by systems managing information
     flow.

3.2 The benefits of Computer Networks

Benefits of connecting computers via a network:

      1. Cost Reduction:
           • Resources such as printers and storage spaces can be shared among multiple
users, reducing the cost of purchasing dedicated resources for each user.

      2. Speedy Access to Needed Information:
           • Data relevant to clients can be retrieved from enterprise servers quickly, and
exchanging emails between distant departments can occur within seconds.

      3. Accuracy in Available Information:
           • Ensures the accuracy of available information.

      4. Control over Information Flow:
           • Enables control over the circulation of information.

      5. Integration of Enterprise Operations:
           • Facilitates the integration of the organization's operations across different
              departments and branches.

      6. Backup for Records and Files:
           • Ensures the existence of backup copies for records and files.
