3. Very High Bitrate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL):
VDSL is characterized by extremely high speeds and is ideal for use in high-
definition television broadcasting.
11.2.3Leased Line
Leased lines are dedicated lines used by large companies, institutions, and
universities to connect their private information networks to the Internet. These lines
are leased from telecommunication service providers and can be established using
copper wire, fiber optics, or radio infrastructure. Leased lines are employed to
provide uninterrupted, direct access to the Internet. One of the key advantages of
leased lines is their high speed, offering the company dedicated bandwidth in
addition to the capability to use high-speed cables. They also provide higher levels of
security compared to other communication methods.
However, one of the main drawbacks of this type of connection is its high cost. In
addition to the expense of leasing the line, it requires connecting devices such as
switches and routers, along with protocols specific to this type of connection, such as
PPP and HDLC.
