The IP address is divided into two parts: a part representing the subnet number and
another part representing the device number within the network. To determine
which bits correspond to each part, another number called the subnet mask is used.
The subnet mask also consists of four sections, with each section containing 1 byte (8
bits). The binary numbers in the subnet mask are set to 1 in the subnet number part
and 0 in the device number part.

What does it mean for devices to have the same network number in an IP address?
It means that they can directly communicate with each other without the need for a
router. IP addresses can be likened to addresses used in cities, where the subnet
address represents the street name, and the device number is similar to the house
number.
