computer network. For example, sending and receiving emails, business and
other documents, etc.
- Sharing resources, which means sharing software resources such as:
applications, sharing files, data or information, or sharing devices such as:
printers, storage devices, etc. For example, if there is a printer connected to a
computer network, all computers in the network can use the same printer.
The Internet and its importance
The Internet: It is a giant computer network (Wide Area Network - WAN), which
consists of a group of networks and computers, each of which contains huge
amounts of information.
The Internet originated in 1969 in the United States of America to support military
research and was called ARPANET - Advanced Research Projects Agency. The
Internet is called a network of networks, and it is also called the information
highway.
Benefits of the Internet:
- Communication, e-commerce and shopping.
-E-education and training.
- The enormous abundance of information sources.
- Speed and ease of access and exchange of information and ensuring its spread.
- Direct and indirect communication: where people of multiple nationalities and
different places can communicate with each other through E-mail, Relay-Chat,
and video conferencing.
- Confidentiality in exchanging information.
