● Remember: Section summary
           • Key idea: Data needs definition and calculation before interpretation.
           • Practical decision: Use the computational tool for the numbers and the model for the
language, and tie every claim to a source.
           • Mistake to avoid: Requesting conclusions from an undocumented table and then
           treating them as established causes.

5.10 Presentations, Charts, and Institutional Materials
◆ Key idea: a deck is an interface for a decision

It is not a visual copy of a report. Begin with what the audience must know and what they
must decide, then choose the smallest set of material that carries them there.

A good deck is not a visual copy of a report. It is a sequence that helps a defined audience

understand a situation and reach a decision. The workflow therefore begins with a question:
what must the audience know, and what must they decide or do afterwards? A logical
narrative is then built, and only then are the slides and charts chosen.

AI can propose a structure, headings, and charts, but it may oversimplify or choose a form

that does not suit the data. A chart must answer a question, not decorate a page. A timeline
suits development over time, bars suit comparison, a line suits a trend, a matrix suits the

intersection of two criteria, and a flow diagram suits a process.

Every visual passes through a verification gate: is the data correct? Are the axes and units
clear? Does the zero point or the scale mislead? Does the title describe the finding without
exaggeration? Are the colors distinguishable? Is there alternative text? When generated

images are used, make sure they do not suggest documentation of a real event if they are
         only illustrative.
