13.2.6Virtual Private Network VPN
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a technology that allows two devices connected to
a public network, such as the Internet, to exchange private data with each other. The
term "private" means that the data exchanged between the devices is confidential
and only accessible to the parties involved. The term "virtual" means that the private
connection takes place over a non-physical communication channel established and
secured through a network specifically dedicated for this purpose. For example,
Virtual Private Networks enable remote access to an organization's internal network
over the Internet. VPN services rely on high-quality encryption systems to maintain
data confidentiality and prevent user tracking online .
