UTP Cable Categories:

There are several categories for UTP cables as follows, and these categories support
     different speeds and lengths:

      • Cat1: This category is used for voice transmission only and is not used for data
          transmission.

      • Cat2: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 4
          megabits/second.

      • Cat3: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 10
          megabits/second.

      • Cat4: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 16
          megabits/second.

      • Cat5: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 100
          megabits/second.

      • Cat5e: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 1000
megabits/second, depending on the wire length.

      • Cat6: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 5 gigabits per
          second for short distances.

      • Cat6A: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 10
          gigabits/second up to 100 meters.

      • Cat8: This category is used for data transmission at speeds up to 25 to 40
          gigabits/second.
