8 Network Components

A computer network consists of several components, each serving its specific function
in the network system. These components include:
• Physical Components

o Host Devices
o Network Interface Cards in each device
o Communication Medium (Transmission Medium)
o Communication Switches (Connecting Devices)
• Logical/Software Components

8.1 Host (PC- Smart Phone – Printer)

To configure an information network, we need computer devices (at least two)
equipped with operating systems that support networking. These devices can serve
specific functions, such as printers and storage units, or be multifunctional devices
like computers, smart TVs, smartphones, and other electronic devices.
