What Every Chapter Contains
The structure repeats so that you always know where to look: a short story from real events,
the chapter objectives, the numbered sections, a practical lab, a conclusion, a glossary,
review questions, exercises, and the references.
Figures are numbered by chapter, so Figure 3-4 is the fourth figure of Chapter Three. Tables
follow the same rule. References are numbered within each chapter and listed at its end,
and every reference in the list is cited somewhere in that chapter.
A Key to the Boxes
Ten kinds of box recur through the book. Each one signals what the passage is for, so that
you can read a chapter closely or scan it for one kind of content.
