Distance Learning

Educational literature uses many terms when referring to the concept of distance
learning, such as distance learning, distributed learning, resource-based learning,
     flexible learning, and other terms.

UNESCO adopts the expression “Open & Distance Learning” to refer to learning in
which the learner is spatially distant from the place of his learning. The term open
education has been used since its inception at the end of the nineteenth century
due to opening opportunities for individuals to study regardless of their
geographical location or economic and social status. UNESCO indicates that what
is meant by distance learning or distance education is that it is: an educational
process in which all or most of the teaching takes place from a person far away in
place and time from the learner, emphasizing that most communications
between teachers and learners take place through a specific medium, whether
electronic or In print, the American Distance Learning Association defines it as the
process of acquiring knowledge and skills through a medium for transferring
education and information, including all types of technology and various forms of
     distance learning.
