Egyptian Universities Network

About the Unit

The Egyptian Universities Network was established in 1987 at its main headquarters within the Supreme Council of Universities building at Cairo University. The goal was to connect Egyptian universities to enable them to share various resources available at each institution. Consequently, the national network of Egyptian universities became the first informational network for universities in the Arab world.

To achieve leadership among educational and research networks at the regional and international levels in accordance with international standards.

Provide integrated information infrastructure for the academic and research community in Egypt.
Provide high-speed network connectivity between public universities.
Connect the Egyptian Universities Network with research networks and the Internet.
Operate an advanced data center to offer various electronic services such as websites and electronic systems.
Provide technical support and consultations to public universities and train their engineers on modern technologies.

Objectives

Enhance the efficiency of the connectivity lines between the branches of public universities and their main centers, and then link the main centers with the Egyptian Universities Network's data center.
Improve the efficiency of connectivity lines with research and international networks such as Gloriad, Geant, and Internet 2.
Operate and secure the Egyptian Universities Network's data center and continuously develop its infrastructure.
Provide electronic services to the academic and research community, including hosting digital systems, electronic portals, virtual servers, email, and remote video conferencing.
Provide technical consultations and support to public universities to enhance their informational infrastructure and digital efficiency.
Collaborate with global companies to qualify and train engineers of Egyptian universities on modern technologies.
Provide the information infrastructure for the Supreme Council of Universities and its various departments.
Improve the domain registration service under the Egyptian domain (.eg), with the Egyptian Universities Network being the primary registrar for all entities, organizations, and institutions in Egypt.

Please note that a letter addressed to Prof. Dr. Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, stamped with the institution's seal, must be submitted.

Connectivity and Internet Services
- Request to join the cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Telecommunications Company (for private and private universities and educational institutions).
- Request for direct connection to the network's main center without joining the protocol.
- Request for direct connection to the network's main center (for colleges and branches of public universities).

Hosting of Devices, Virtual Servers, and Websites
- Hosting services for universities, educational entities, and research centers in the data center of the Egyptian Universities Network, including technical support.
- Entities and research centers can request hosting services from the network manager for an annual subscription fee, determined based on specifications and requirements, as well as technical feasibility.

Technical Consultations and Support

Providing technical consultations and support to universities and government entities through filling out a communication form to specify the required consultation or service. A response will be provided within 72 hours.

There are several requirements to follow when choosing a domain name, including:

It should be derived from the name of the organization or its nature of work with proof, or it can be a general name.
Avoid using the names of prophets, legal entities, countries, or cities.
It should start with a letter or number and not include spaces between the characters.
