Recognition of higher education qualifications is a procedure practiced in most countries, governed by international agreements that outline its general framework.
The goal of this process is to provide a fair evaluation of qualifications obtained outside a country’s educational system, enabling the applicant to benefit from the advantages and rights associated with that qualification (such as engaging in a specific profession or pursuing higher studies) within that country. In the Arab Republic of Egypt, this procedure is handled by a specialized committee, the Equivalency Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities.
This committee is responsible for evaluating and equating academic degrees and diplomas (Bachelor's, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master's, Doctorate) obtained from universities not governed by Law No. 49 of 1972 on the Organization of Universities and its Executive Regulations, against equivalent degrees awarded by Egyptian universities that fall under this law.
The Equivalency of Academic Degrees Administration within the Supreme Council of Universities is the administrative unit responsible for all executive procedures related to the equivalency process.
