Steps to encrypt conversations on WhatsApp:

    1. Open a chat with someone and tap on their name. This will open the contact
    information screen.
    2. Then click on Encryption.
    3. You will see a QR code and a 60-digit number, and all you have to do is send the 60
numbers to the recipient to complete the encryption process.
    4. After scanning the previous codes, you will see a green mark to confirm encryption.
This matching means that no one can intercept your messages or calls.
Unencrypted chats could mean you're using a hacked version of WhatsApp, your chat
with someone isn't encrypted due to outdated software, or your phone is hacked.

    Security and privacy within WhatsApp:

WhatsApp was initially criticized for its lack of encryption and sending information as plain text.
Crypto was first added in May 2012.

End-to-end encryption was fully implemented only in April 2016 after a two-year process. In 2016,
WhatsApp was widely praised for adding end-to-end encryption and received 6 out of 7 points on the
Electronic Frontier Foundation's "Secure Messaging Scorecard." Security researchers and the
Electronic Frontier Foundation criticized WhatsApp for using backups not covered by end-to-end
encryption and allowing third parties to access messages.
