• Minicomputers are medium-sized computers that are larger than
microcomputers but smaller than mainframes. They also use multiprocessing
systems and can accommodate from 5 to 300 people. Minicomputers are
primarily used in small businesses, colleges, research laboratories, and
hospitals. They are cost-effective and provide mainframe functionality at a
reasonable price. Minicomputers can process data from multiple sources
while dealing with large amounts of information. They are powered by
microprocessors and use operating systems such as Unix, Linux, or
Windows. Minicomputer applications include networking, communication,
data processing and analysis, image processing, software development,
multimedia, and storing massive amounts of data.
