stayed fixed and what changed. Then classify each change as content, form, or fact.
Output: A table of four runs with the changes classified into content, form, and fact.
Assessment criterion: The conclusion separates useful variety from factual instability. It
does not claim that a lower setting makes an answer true.
↻ Exercise 5: Reducing sycophancy
Goal: Stop a question from carrying its own answer.
Required: A decision you are already inclined toward. Allow about 20 minutes.
Steps: Write the question as you would naturally ask it. Underline the words that reveal
your preference. Rewrite it to ask for the supporting evidence, the opposing evidence,
and what would change the decision. Then run both and compare.
Output: The two questions and the two answers, with the differences marked.
Assessment criterion: The second answer contains a real argument against your
preference. If it does not, the question is still loaded.
↻ Exercise 6: Structured output
Goal: Separate the correctness of the form from the correctness of the content.
Required: An extraction task over five short documents. Allow about 35 minutes.
Steps: Define the fields and the type of each. Write the policy for a missing value and for
a value the document does not state. Request the output in that structure. Then check
the structure programmatically and check the values by hand.
Output: A field definition, five extracted records, and two separate error counts, one for
form and one for content.
Assessment criterion: A record that matches the structure but carries a wrong value is
counted as an error.
↻ Exercise 7: Long context
Goal: Work on a long document without relying on the system to hold all of it at once.
Required: A document of at least twenty pages. Allow about 45 minutes.
Steps: Divide it into meaningful units rather than equal lengths. Write one extraction
template and apply it to every unit. Process the units separately. Then write a working
brief carrying only what the next step needs.
Output: The unit list, the filled template, and a one-page working brief.
Assessment criterion: Every claim in the brief can be traced to a named unit, and material
lying in the middle of the document is not missing.
↻ Exercise 8: Prompting in Arabic
Goal: State the language requirements that are usually left implicit.
Required: A bilingual task from your work. Allow about 30 minutes.
Steps: Specify the variety of Arabic. List the terms that keep their English form and those
that must be translated. State the direction and the layout of the output. Name the
numeral and date format. Then list the proper names that must not be translated.
