Types of software

Computer software is divided into two main types:
1- Operating Systems
2- Application Programs

1- Operating System

Operating System program, known for
short as OS, is one of the most important
computer programs, because it is
responsible for its operation and the work
of the rest of the programs. When you turn
on the computer, some operating system
files are automatically downloaded (copied)
from the hard disk to random memory so
that the central processing unit can execute
operating system commands.

2- Application Programs

Application software means a set of programs that are used to edit, create
texts, or process images. Each program is used to perform a specific purpose
or function, and the computer can operate without it. Examples of this
software include:

Web Browsing Programs:
Software that is used to display the contents of the World Wide Web and interact
with it. Examples of browsers include: Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, Chrome.

Desktop Publishing:
This software allows you to create files containing graphics, images, and text to
create magazines and advertising materials. Examples of these applications
include Microsoft Publisher.

Photo Editing Application:
These programs allow you to edit images, and you can modify the elements of the
image, such as: its resolution, modify colors, remove blemishes, and you can
apply special effects and filter the image. Examples of these programs include
Adobe Photoshop.
